About the Role
The Corporate Communications Lead for The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) Emerging Southeast Asia (SEA) will oversee integrated communications efforts across Thailand, the Philippines, and frontier markets (including Vietnam) in the SEA region. Based in Bangkok, this role reports to both the Senior Vice President of TWDC APAC Corporate Communications and the General Manager of TWDC Emerging SEA, serving as a strategic communications leader for our growing business presence in these dynamic markets.
The Walt Disney Company has been entertaining consumers across Asia Pacific for over 70 years. This role will focus on enhancing TWDC's reputation in market, supporting our Disney+ and Studio businesses and deepening our stakeholder connections in Thailand and the Philippines.
This position requires a dynamic, adaptable communications professional who understands the unique media and entertainment landscape, cultural nuances, and business environment of Thailand, the Philippines, and emerging frontier markets, while managing a small team of contractors to deliver impactful communications outcomes.
Responsibilities:
Corporate Reputation and Brand Positioning
- In alignment with our broader corporate objectives, develop and execute integrated communications and media relations plans to support key business goals in Thailand, the Philippines and frontier markets (including Vietnam) with a focus on elevating and protecting TWDC's corporate brand reputation, and driving the Disney+ and studio businesses in markets.
- Establish strategic positioning of TWDC in these markets aligned with regional and global business guidance and priorities.
- Design proactive and targeted media relations programs engaging influential editors, journalists, and key opinion leaders in the entertainment industry.
Issues and Crisis Management
- Proactively identify, assess, and manage potential communication issues and opportunities that could impact TWDC's reputation in Emerging SEA markets.
- Serve as trusted communications advisor to the business team and senior stakeholders on sensitive matters requiring communications counsel.
Internal Employee Communications
- Create compelling internal messaging that builds corporate culture, informs employees of business developments, and strengthens employee connection to TWDC's mission and values.
- Support executive communications for market heads and senior leaders.
Corporate Social Responsibility
- Work with APAC CSR lead on impactful CSR initiatives that contribute to local communities and enhance stakeholder relations, with a focus on children’s hospitals, wish-granting and empowering the next generation of storytellers.
Team and Stakeholder Management
- Manage a small team of contractors, providing direction and quality oversight.
- Work collaboratively with Emerging SEA leaders and teams, and Disney+ / studio publicity and marketing teams.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate brings expertise in corporate communications in Thailand and/or the Philippines markets.
- Candidates must demonstrate 10-15 years of corporate communications, journalism, or media relations experience with proven track record in the media and entertainment industry, streaming, tech or related consumer-facing sectors.
- International PR agency experience a plus.
- Strong knowledge of local media and entertainment landscape in Thailand and/or the Philippines is essential, including established relationships with key editors, journalists, and influencers.
- Experience advising business leaders on communications strategy.
- The role demands excellent written and oral communication skills in English, with proficiency in Thai or Filipino languages highly valued.
- Expertise in issues and crisis communications, with demonstrated ability to manage sensitive situations under pressure while maintaining composure and strategic focus.
- Ability to work effectively with virtual teams across markets, time zones, and cultures.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AI tools.
- Flexibility, resourcefulness and ability to thrive in fast-paced, changing environment.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Public Affairs, Communications, Journalism, Government, Media or related field is required.
