The Director of Business Affairs for Latin America will be responsible for leading, structuring, and negotiating agreements related to the development and production of original content in the region, ensuring the protection of the company’s interests and alignment with the global strategy of The Walt Disney Company.
This role will act as a key strategic partner to the Head of Content, collaborating from the early stages of development to identify project-specific elements that may require adaptations or exceptions to standard contractual policies. In this context, the role requires a deep understanding of creative, production, and talent needs, translating them into tailored contractual solutions that enable the creative vision while safeguarding company standards.
The Director, Business Affairs will be responsible for:
The Director of Business Affairs will lead and oversee complex negotiations with key talent (including showrunners, writers, directors, producers, and cast), acting as a bridge between production and legal. Unlike a purely legal function, this role brings a strategic business and relationship-driven perspective, ensuring not only the best contractual terms for the company, but also the development and long-term management of key talent relationships.
The role will also play a central part in structuring co-production agreements and third-party partnerships, working closely with the content team to design optimal negotiation frameworks for incorporating external partners into original content, maximizing the strategic value of each collaboration.
In the area of intellectual property (IP), the role will partner with legal to evaluate and structure projects involving multiple rights sources, ensuring the legal integrity and strategic robustness of each project, and defining the most effective strategies to secure the broadest possible scope of rights for the company.
Additionally, the Director of Business Affairs will act as a key liaison with the compliance function when specific project characteristics create potential tensions with corporate policies, balancing creative needs with regulatory and compliance standards.
The role will also be responsible for identifying and coordinating opportunities across Latin America related to tax incentives, rebates, and other financing mechanisms. Working in close collaboration with production, legal, and finance, the role will help structure and secure these benefits, optimizing budget efficiency and enhancing the financial execution of each project.
From a strategic standpoint, the Director of Business Affairs will lead regional risk assessment and contribute to the evolution of contractual practices in response to shifting market dynamics, ensuring the company remains flexible and competitive in the face of new business models, production structures, and industry trends.
In summary, this role serves as a critical integrator across content, production, legal, and strategy, with the ability to translate creative needs into strong, sustainable contractual frameworks aligned with the company’s long-term vision.
