JOB DESCRIPTION

The Help Desk Administrator provides Level 1 and Level 2 support for the animation studio. The successful candidate will have proven technical ability, indicated on his resume and supported by technical job references. This position reports to the Technical Coordinator and the Head of Systems and works closely with the department’s systems administration staff for daily task assignments and priorities.

 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Exhibits courtesy, tact, consideration, teamwork and discretion in all interactions with Studio staff and with the public.

  • The Help Desk Workstation Administrator position provides Level 1 and 2 sustaining support for our 500+ seat digital animation studio, including but not limited to:

    • 375+ CentOS Linux workstations (v6.5).  

    • 275+ Mac OS X workstations, laptops and servers (OS X 10.8, 10.10).

    • 175+ Windows workstations and laptops (Windows 7). 

    • Maintaining the stability, functionality and performance of the Studio's desktop computer environment, including but not limited to: 

      • Troubleshooting authentication (Active Directory, NIS), network storage (NFS, CIFS) and network connectivity issues (TCPIP, DHCP, DNS); 

      • Workstation security, including anti-virus reporting and remediation (Symantec End Point Protection);

      • Client data backup and restore (EMC Networker, Windows My Documents sync, OS X portable home); 

      • Configuration and image management.

      • Installing and troubleshooting integration issues with desktop and production applications.

      • Patching network connections and digital telephones (switch to desktop).

      • Maintaining inventories of software (media and licenses), hardware, and printer toner.

      • Maintaining printers and printer clients, including distributing printer toner; configuring and troubleshooting printers.

      • Configuring and troubleshooting user accounts and home directories for Linux, Mac and Windows.

      • Configuring and troubleshooting remote access.

    • Training users in the proper use of applications and peripherals. Experience with Wacom tablets is a plus.

    • Thorough record keeping and documentation as required.

    • Other projects, and duties as may be required or assigned

 

Qualifications:

 Education and/or Experience Required:

  • Minimum of an Associates degree in a related field and/or a combination of Education and experience that would be equitable to that level of professionalism, problem solving and analytical skills,

  • 2 + year IT experience in a business or production environment.  Specifically: Previous experience in customer support, computer operations, system administration, or a related area.

  • Prior experience administering workstation technology in a multi-platform production environment is a plus.

   

Skills, Abilities, Special Licenses or Certificate:  

  • The Help Desk Administrator position requires the ability to service a wide range of technologies, including but not limited to: 
  • Hardware installation and component troubleshooting:

    • Apple iMac, Mac mini, MacPro, MacBook and MacBook Pro;

    • HP zSeries workstations; 

    • HP monitors including HP DreamColor and Hyundai Stereo monitors;

    • Wacom Intuos and Cintiq tablets;

    • HP and Xerox printers, scanners, faxes;

    • Nvidia and AJA graphics cards,

  • Operating system installation and configuration:

    • CentOS; experience with Fedora and BSD is a plus;

    • Apple OS X;

    • Windows 7, Windows server experience is a plus;

  • Application installation and configuration:

    • Browser-based email clients; experience with Zimbra Productivity Suite is a plus;

    • Microsoft and Apple business and productivity applications, including Office, Project, iWorks

    • Adobe Creative Suite;

    • Video production and playback applications, including QuickTime Pro, Final Draft, Fluendo.

  • A proven technical aptitude, indicated on resume and supported by technical references.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to relate to and effectively communicate professionally with all levels of employees.

  • Process oriented, but flexible around business needs.

 

Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands:  

  • Office working environment

  • Systems provides IT support for a 24/7 Animation Studio:  Flexible working hours and overtime required, including early morning, late evening and some weekends to support maintenance and production cycles.

  • Walking/bending/sitting

  • Lifting of up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
