ABC News is seeking a Director, Post-Production Editing Operations to lead post-production operations strategy and workflows for our longform units. Longform is inclusive of 2020, ABC News Studios, Impact by Nightline. This is a highly collaborative role responsible for operational planning and delivery of a significant annual portfolio of programming delivering planned and unplanned specials, series, and programs presented across broadcast and streaming platforms. The Director will lead a dedicated team prioritizing a strategic, professional, collaborative, and growth-focused mindset and environment. ABC News is uniquely positioned to deliver this broad range of content and requires an experienced post-production operations leader to strategically manage and develop this team to meet the creative goals of ABC News in this space.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and manage post-production editors and editing workflows across all longform projects. Longform includes ABC News Studios, 2020, Nightline Impact.
- Work closely and collaboratively with EPs, Senior Producers, ABC News Studios Production Management.
- Direct and manage daily operations for high volume post-production teams – inclusive of staff and freelance personnel.
- Lead the team responsible for longform delivery/distribution to streaming, broadcast, international, theatrical, and festival formats.
- Oversee media management and archive process across all Longform projects.
- Manage all parts of the operational editing process including color correction, VFX, titling, audio mix, QC, screening, and final delivery.
- Identify, iterate, and implement workflows designed to optimize the post-production process from acquisition through archive.
- Deep understanding of postproduction workflows and external postproduction vendor technical relationships.
Qualifications:
- 12+ years industry experience in live post-production management with experience directly managing post-production editors and managers.
- Expertise in running post-production processes for a variety of deliverables and timelines from concept to delivery.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented leader who will continuously assess and prioritize resources across projects, including schedule changes and unplanned short-turn around specials.
- Experience supervising workflows for multiple content varieties and distribution platforms including Disney+, ABC, Hulu, Freeform, Nat Geo, and FXX.
- Expertise in editing and audio mixing software such as Avid, Adobe Premiere, After Effects, DaVinci, ProTools, among others.
- Expert knowledge in broadcast and streaming technical specifications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required interacting with technical and non-technical creatives and executives.
- Creative problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Schedule flexibility around unplanned news cycles.
- Strong industry contacts across media/production technology/systems, vendors, and industry groups.
- Experience with Labor Relations, Human Resources, Finance business partners.
- Understanding VFX/GFX integration, rights management, music, legal, credit processes.
- Experience with archive workflows, including creation and recall/use of show boxes/virtual show boxes.

The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $130,800 to $175,400 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
