About Disney Cruise Line

About the Role

The Manager, Electrical Technical Operations is responsible for all electrical and maintenance for the Disney Adventure and other vessels within the Asia & Pacific region. This role will manage the Marine Electrical Technical Operations technical team as assigned, including personnel development aspects. This role will be responsible for assigned shipboard marine electrical engineering and machinery automation systems upkeep and performance. Assist in the development and planning of key maintenance periods in line with the vessels planned operational profile. Appoint and manage subcontractors to deliver contract maintenance and repairs on time and within approved budgets. Review, adjust and introduce procedures and work instructions for areas of responsibility. This role will also be responsible for ensuring proper record keeping is maintained and that Classification and Regulatory compliance is adhered to.

You will report to the Director, Marine & Technical Operations in Singapore.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with departmental budgets for areas of responsibilities.
  • Liaison with USCG, Lloyd’s Register, and USPH for areas of responsibility.
  • Oversee compliance with technical aspects of applicable Flag State, Port State, international, and classification society resolutions and requirements, including CSM.
  • Oversee maintenance of ships and proper documentation in company-approved maintenance system.
  • See that Marine and Technical Systems Programmable Electronic Control Systems within areas of responsibility are maintained in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer recommendations and applicable classification or statutory requirements, included related to security.
  • Oversight and management of DCL standards and operations for safe use of electricity in potentially explosive atmospheres, including fuel hazardous zones, in coordination with assigned Ship Teams, Classification Society and Vendors in line with International Standards.
  • Oversee compliance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Safe Type Equipment Approval Procedure and Documentation in line with applicable standards, e.g. IEC 60079, IEC 60092, Electrical Installations on Ships, IMO SOLAS, IMO International Code for Low Flashpoint Fuels (IGF Code), Lloyd’s Register and Det Norske Veritas Rules and Regulations for the Classification of Ships.
    • Equipment protection types include Flameproof, Intrinsically Safe, Enhanced Safety, High IP Rating in other hazardous zones and spaces (e.g. paint lockers, gas locker, pyrotechnic storage).
  • Oversee Engineering documentation updating for hazardous areas works (Hazardous Areas Zoning Plans, Hazard Identification Analyses, Hazard and Operability Studies, Schedule of electrical powered installations, OEM Nationally Accredited Approval Certification and therein referenced documentation, Installation and Service Records, Classification Society Survey).
  • Manage Electrical and Automation Specialist Vendor Services Agreements (e.g. LNG bunkering communications link, gas detection system, fuel automation and power management systems, etc.).
  • Manage assigned Electrical Engineering work, including Management of Specialist Vendors. Oversee Ship Marine & Technical Officers and Island Technical Team (DCL Senior Officers, Officers) in coordination with Original Equipment Manufacturers and experts with Regulatory Surveyors.
  • Ensure approvals and compliance are in place for mandatory Maritime Electrical Engineering Safety and other Engineering Regulations are in place for planned work, including design and type approvals, Factory Testing and Harbor and Sea Trials.
  • Manage vendors, onboard teams and installation technicians to see that Company standards are maintained during installation or repair of system components in area of responsibility.
  • Manages, supports and oversees Electrical Technical Operation Managers for assigned ships.
  • Provide the continuous availability ashore for shipboard-routine materials.
  • Leads Electrical and related operational standards for the Engineering department.
  • See that corrective and preventive action is taken on issues within area of responsibility.
  • Maintain shore-based library of technical information about each vessel in the fleet.
  • Carry out ship walks including Vessel Assessment and SQS Architectural lighting and reviews with Electrical Technical Operation Managers.
  • Approves, maintains and verifies compliance with LOG policies and procedures in onboard departments for which responsible.
  • Assist and supports Dry Docks for Marine and Technical.

Safety Management System (SMS) Responsibilities:

  • Implementation of the general safety management responsibilities in SMS.
  • Manage DCL SMS Continuous Improvement Reports (CIR) pertaining to issues within areas of responsibility – required by IMO International Code on Safety Management for each Shipping Company.
  • Responsible for implementing Safety Management System policies and procedures relative to areas of responsibilities. Makes sure the operating procedures pertaining to both shipboard and shore-based Technical operating practices are in place and functioning in compliance with the SMS.
  • Responsible for Maintenance and repairs of Satellite Systems throughout the Disney Cruise Line Fleet.
  • Provides shore-based assistance for Masters and their Officers to maintain safe ship operations.
  • Maintains regular communication with Chief Engineers and Chief Electrical Engineers on issues within area of responsibility.
  • Run monthly status reports on overdue maintenance including key equipment.
  • Assists and keeps the Dir-Marine & Technical Operations in Singapore informed of ongoing and planned matters relevant to Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) and other radio communications.
  • Assists and keeps the Dir-Marine & Technical Operations in Singapore informed of ongoing and planned matters relevant to Electronic aids to Navigation.
  • Oversees Technical Maintenance of other security technology, including Man Overboard Detection System and Search and Rescue camera.
  • Participates in meetings with key equipment vendors for Marine and Technical Operations keeping marine and technical Executives and Shipboard Teams informed of ongoing and planned matters.
  • Provide technical support to Entertainment, Disney Cruise Line Telecom, Disney Cruise Line Technology, Safety, Security and Environmental Policy and Compliance.
  • Delegate for represent Electrical Engineering in the Safety Committee and Environmental Committee.
  • Assists and keeps the Executive Director Technical Operations and Senior Manager Electrical Technical Operations informed of ongoing and planned matters relevant to issues and materials in the SMS.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience ship management marine or industrial engineering, or relevant role.
  • Familiarity with Hazardous areas installations and operations.
  • Familiarity with Marine Engineering Safety, Environmental, Public Health and Security Regulations.
  • Qualified as a Marine/Mechanical Engineer or Naval Architect.
  • Experience using computer based planned maintenance systems.
  • Knowledgeable and efficient with the use of computers and related technology.
  • Ability to work in a shipboard and shipbuilding environment (e.g. ship marine and engineering spaces during maintenance, shipyards, manufacturer works, etc.).

Preferred Qualification:

  • Project management certification preferred

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering or equivalent

Preferred Education:

  • MBA preferred
