We are responsible for the end-to-end digital and physical Guest experience for all technology & digital-led initiatives across the Attractions & Entertainment, Food & Beverage, Resorts & Transportation and Merchandise lines of business as well as other initiatives including MyDisneyExperience and Hey, Disney!

This role sits in the Disney Signature Experience organization within Technology & Digital for Disney Experiences. It works closely with Adventures by Disney and National Geographic Expeditions (A&E). 

The lead software engineer will report to the Manager.

About The Role & Team:

  • The Lead Software Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing new software as well as maintaining existing systems.  You will also provide technical direction and approach for the technology stack for the A&E application team.  You will assist in leading a small, highly focused and fast paced development team, and will be responsible for participating in all stages of the software development lifecycle.  Solid design and analysis skills and the ability to find innovative solutions to difficult problems are required.
  • They will be responsible for facilitating the translation of functional business requirements into technical specifications for the development teams and work along with Business Analysts, Product Owners, and Project Managers to ensure the delivery of a best-in-class solution for our business stakeholders.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide technical direction and develop the strategic technology roadmap for the A&E application team.
  • Lead the design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of new and existing software systems, focusing on large or complex projects.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts, Product Owners, Project Managers, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical specifications and ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Facilitate decision-making, proactively raise concerns, and coordinate with management and Solution Engineering to balance time, quality, and cost.
  • Lead estimation, planning, and budgeting for scalable projects, identifying technical dependencies and managing project risks.
  • Define and enforce coding standards, patterns, and best practices across projects.
  • Mentor team members on software development, agile practices, and team culture.
  • Review code and solution designs to ensure quality and adherence to Disney Reference Architecture.
  • Work with business and product teams to clarify, document, and refine functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Ensure requirements are clear, concise, and properly documented in Jira.
  • Create and review technical documentation, including UML diagrams and application infrastructure diagrams.
  • Partner with Tech Leads, Architects, and development teams to design and implement solutions, sharing learnings across initiatives.
  • Interact with users to define system requirements and modifications.
  • Present high-level solution options to stakeholders for review.
  • Lead or participate in testing and debugging of applications, identifying and implementing innovative solutions.
  • Identify and manage technical debt, ensuring backlog stories are updated in real-time.
  • Recommend and pilot improvements to practices, processes, and technology for organizational effectiveness.
  • Provide leadership for onshore and offshore technology resources.
  • Own the final product, ensuring delivery of high-quality solutions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years of related work experience
  • Comfortable working in an agile environment
  • An advocate for a diverse and inclusive culture that encourages innovation and ensures every team member feels a sense of belonging
  • Strong ability to clearly communicate thoughts and ideas to development and leadership teams
  • Strong problem solving and analysis skills
  • Organized, detail-oriented and able to deliver tasks on time
  • Experience in programming with .NET Framework, .NET Core, C#, ASP.NET MVC (primary technology stack)
  • Experience with AWS / Cloud based development 
  • Experience with developing and maintaining stored procedures
  • Experience with Web Development, RESTful Web API Development, Microservices
  • Experience with Oracle SQL server
  • Experience with Full Stack development with focus on middle tier and back-end
  • Experience with Entity framework
  • Experience with Unit Testing
  • Experience with continuous integration/delivery systems
  • Expertise with relational databases, writing and optimizing queries
  • Expertise creating UML diagrams to document technical implementation
  • Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming
  • Experience with Jira including reviewing and updating requirements and user stories

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 10 years of related work experience
  • Experience developing large scale enterprise solutions.
  • Experience with Versonix Seaware suite of applications
  • Experience with Oracle and Maria DB databases
  • Experience with Adobe Experience Manager
  • Experience with a secondary Java based technology stack and Java Enterprise Development

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's or foreign equivalent Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
